Connecting your Shopify data to Google Data Studio enables you to take your reporting to the next level. There are a whole range of advantages to using Google Data Studio with Shopify and the best thing is that it is very easy to do!
Data Studio allows better data analysis, easier shareability, nicer visualisations and superior data consolidation to name just some of the benefits.
The following quick guide shows how you can use Power My Analytics to connect Shopify to Data Studio in just 4 easy steps. We even include a Shopify template you can use to get started right away.
Step 1: Sign up for a Power My Analytics data hub
The first step is to navigate to Power my Analytics here.
After signing in, you will then be able to select your data source. You can then find the ‘Shopify’ Tile and click on it.
and click into the Data Source:
Step 2: Add a Shopify account, then launch Data Studio
Select Shopify from Data Sources, then Add Account (1). Once a Shopify account is added, you can then click the Create Google Data Studio Report button (2).
Note: To add a Shopify account you need an API password. If you do not have an API password already, follow the instructions below to generate one:
Step 2b: In a new tab, login to your Shopify admin and navigate to Apps > Manage private apps > Create private app (Enable private apps first if needed)
Step 2c: Enter “Power My Analytics” for Private app name (1), then enter your email address for Emergency developer email (2)
Step 2d: Click Show inactive Admin API permissions
Step 2e: Enable Read access for Customers, Inventory, Orders, & Products, then Save
Step 2f: Copy your API Password
Step 2g: Go back to your Power My Analytics hub tab and Enter your Store address and Admin API Password from Shopify, click Connect
Step 3: Select your Power My Analytics Hub and Shopify User Account
Note: If it’s your first time connecting a source to Data Studio, you’ll need to authorize with Google. Then, if there is an authorize button for Shopify, click that as well, but because you already added a Shopify account in Step 1 you will not need to re-enter your login info.
We highly recommend keeping the “Use report template for new reports” option checked to create a demo report. The template will help you identify which fields you want, then easily copy and paste them into your own custom reports.
Step 4: Follow Data Studio configuration steps to Create Report
After configuring your hub and account options, click Next until presented with the Connect button. No additional configuration is needed at this point. Upon clicking Connect you will see the Shopify schema and can then click the Create Report button.
